Thighplasty Surgery Can Reshape Your Thighs

Thighplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to improve and tighten the overall appearance of the thighs. People who opt for this surgery have low skin elasticity in their thighs or have thighs with a dimpled, saggy, and flabby appearance. This look dramatically improves once the loose skin is lifted.

Thigh lifts are perfect for reducing sagging in the outer or the inner thigh. It is usually performed on patients who have lost a lot of weight.

Incision Technique Options

The incisions made for the procedure can vary greatly and will be determined by the degree of change desired by the patient. The different kinds of thighplasty include a bilateral thigh lift, inner thigh lift, and medial thigh lift.

As the name suggests, an inner thigh lift focuses on the patient’s inner thigh, whereas a bilateral lift focuses on tightening the skin on the outside and the front of the leg. The plastic surgeon will make an incision at the top of the patient’s leg, around the area where the lower edge of an underwear or a bikini bottom would be. They remove a small amount of the skin and pull up the remaining skin, which helps in tightening the skin on the sides of the leg.

Median lifts are meant to lift the fat and skin on the upper half of the inner thighs. The incision made for this procedure extends from the groin to the crease in between the buttocks. The skin is lifted and the excess skin and fat is removed to improve the look of the inner upper thigh.

Surgical Procedure

On average, thighplasty surgery takes around two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The plastic surgeon first marks the thigh before the surgery, when the patient is standing upright.

Irrespective of the type of thighplasty procedure, the incision is sutured to make sure that there is no sagging once the wounds heal. Any post-surgical marks are hidden in the crease of the groin, beneath the underwear line.

During this procedure, the plastic surgeon will place drains to allow the excess fluid to drain away once the surgery is complete. They are removed after a few days.

Sometimes, surgeons lift the entire thigh and buttock to target the outer thigh. This procedure needs longer incisions than a normal thighplasty procedure, but experienced plastic surgeons can ensure that you get the most effective results possible.

If there is excess fatty tissue, the plastic surgeon may perform liposuction before he goes ahead with the thighplasty. If the plastic surgeon recommends a thighplasty several months after the liposuction, it can be performed then.

Recovery Process

The recovery time after surgery will depend on the extent of tissue removal. Most of the patients experience a little pain that is easily alleviated with pain medication.

Patients are advised to rest as much as they can after surgery and to avoid moving their legs. They must take a week off of work to recover from the procedure. Post-operative swelling and bruising will disappear within a month, and the patients will be able to resume their normal activities in four months.
