Revision breast surgery can be performed for a variety of reasons, including correction of an issue called capsular contracture. This condition may affect the breasts following breast augmentation.
After a breast augmentation procedure, each breast implant will be slowly enclosed by scar tissue. This thin shell of scar tissue is known as a capsule, and it is quite helpful for keeping implants in their proper places.
Unfortunately, in certain cases, the body will create a thicker capsule, one which creates constriction in the region. Pain and stiffness result, and the breast may lose its shape and look malformed.
To correct this issue, known as capsular contracture, we can often either alter or remove the scar-tissue capsule. This restores the appearance of the breast and relieves stiffness and pain.
