The term “bat wings” is typically used to describe sagging loose skin on your upper arms. It can be the result of the aging process or a sudden massive drop in weight. If you are highly self conscious about your bat wings and shy away from wearing sleeveless clothes in public, brachioplasty might just be the procedure to correct your problem.
What is Brachioplasty?
A brachioplasty procedure, more commonly known as an arm lift, is a cosmetic procedure that involves reshaping and contouring the upper arms by removing the excess skin tissue and fat tissue that accumulates within the region. Once the excess tissue is removed, the remaining skin and muscle tissue is tightened.
The surgical procedure not only helps to get rid of stubborn fat that is impossible to reduce through diet and exercise alone, but also provides a more toned and trim appearance to the arms. Your surgeon will perform the surgery by making an incision on the inside of the arm from the elbow to the armpit. He will then remove excess loose skin and fat from the area.
The brachioplasty procedure can also be performed in conjunction with liposuction to remove excess deposits of fat within the upper arm region. Once the extra tissue is removed, the wound is sutured and left to heal. Your surgeon takes special care to ensure that when the incisions heal they are concealed and visible only when the arms are raised.
The Recovery Period
Brachioplasty may be performed as an outpatient procedure and takes approximately two hours to perform. You may expect mild bruising, swelling, and discomfort after the procedure. These symptoms can be controlled by keeping your arm elevated with pillows and wearing compression garments prescribed by your surgeon.
Post operative discomfort may be alleviated by taking pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. Although, most patients may be able to resume their everyday routines within a few days, you must limit any strenuous activities until your surgeon gives you permission to resume exercising.
Who can be a suitable Candidate for the Brachioplasty Surgery?
Brachioplasty is most commonly performed on individuals who are left with sagging loose upper arm skin following a massive drop in weight. When a large amount of fat is eliminated from the body, the stretched skin is unable to restore its firmness, leading to the formation of bat wings.
In some cases, an individual will experience a loss of elasticity in the skin tissue as a result of aging. This can also cause an excess of skin in the upper arm region of the body.
If you too want to have gorgeously sculpted arms with minimum effort, you can get the brachioplasty surgery done by an experienced plastic surgeon. Arm lift surgery can help get rid of unsightly loose skin to obtain beautifully toned arms.
